GTA 6 keeps the six-star wanted level and adds a new Heat system. In Grand Theft Auto VI the police do not just chase a star rating: they can recognize Jason and Lucia by how they look and where they were last seen. That changes how you escape.
How the GTA 6 Heat system works
- Six wanted stars return, as already shown in Rockstar’s trailers.
- Identification: police can identify you by your appearance and location.
- Escalation: how loud you are during a robbery affects how hard the police respond.
- Busted: getting arrested still ends in the classic Busted screen.
How to lose the police in GTA 6
- Change your look. Swap clothes or change your hair, so witnesses and cops no longer match you.
- Ditch the getaway vehicle. A car that has been reported keeps the Heat on you.
- Split up. Jason and Lucia can separate to shake off pursuit, see how switching works.
- Plan quiet. Robberies can be done fast and loud or slow and careful. Quiet means less escalation.
Robberies and stolen cars
Some cars need special tools to steal, and the WAiNK phone app scans a vehicle for security, trackers, registration cost and fence value. More in GTA 6 phone apps. Some missions only unlock once you have enough money, see money guides.
FAQ
Is there a cheat to remove your wanted level in GTA 6?
Not confirmed. Previous GTA games had one, so check our GTA 6 cheats page at launch.
What happens when you get busted?
Rockstar has not detailed the penalty yet. In GTA 5 you lost some money and your weapons stayed. We will update this after launch.
