Yes, GTA 6 has hurricanes. Rockstar Games confirmed tropical storms and hurricanes for Leonida, with heavy rain, strong wind, thunder and lightning. It is part of a completely new weather system that makes the GTA 6 world feel much more alive than GTA 5.
Confirmed weather features
- Hurricanes and tropical storms with heavy rain, wind, thunder and lightning
- Local weather: weather is localized and persistent, so it can be sunny where you stand while a storm rolls through nearby
- Wet world: rain leaves puddles and wet surfaces that stay for a while
- Rainbows can appear after the rain
- New wind system: sea breezes after sunset, warm updrafts and wind around tall buildings, visible in hair, debris, water ripples and swamp grass
What hurricanes do in the game
Rockstar has not said how often hurricanes happen or whether they affect missions and the story. Leonida is based on Florida, where hurricane season is a real part of life, so storms fit the setting. Expect us to test it at launch: we will update this guide with what storms actually change.
Weather and the rest of Leonida
- Animal fur and feathers soak in the rain, see GTA 6 animals.
- Clothing gets dirty and weathered depending on where you have been.
- The swamps of Grassrivers and the coast of the Leonida Keys are where storms should look most dramatic.
FAQ
Can you control the weather in GTA 6?
Not that we know. Weather cheats existed in older GTA games, see our GTA 6 cheats page for updates at launch.
Does weather affect driving?
Rockstar has not said. Wet roads affected handling in GTA 5, so it would be logical.
