No, GTA 6 does not come on a disc. Rockstar Games confirmed in its pre-order announcement that the physical edition of Grand Theft Auto VI will contain a download code inside the box. You download the full game, just like a digital purchase.
What is in the GTA 6 box?
- A download code for PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S
- No game disc
- The Vintage Vice City Pack if bought before November 20, 2026
When can you buy the physical edition?
Rockstar says the physical edition is available from November 12, 2026, the same day pre-loading starts. That gives boxed buyers a week to download before launch on November 19.
What this means for you
- PS5 Digital Edition and Xbox Series S owners can play the boxed version, because it is only a code.
- You need the storage space anyway. Check our GTA 6 file size guide.
- Reselling is limited. Once a code is redeemed, it is tied to your account, so you cannot trade the game in like a disc.
- A good gift option. A boxed code is still easy to wrap for the holidays.
Physical or digital: which should you buy?
Buy digitally if you want the free month of GTA+ that comes with digital pre-orders and pre-loading without a trip to the shop. Buy the box if you want to pay with a gift card in a store or give it as a present. Compare prices on our GTA 6 price and editions page.
