Short answer: no online multiplayer has been confirmed for GTA 6 at launch. In its official pre-order announcement, Rockstar Games describes Grand Theft Auto VI as a single-player experience. Rockstar has not announced a new GTA Online or any other multiplayer mode for November 19, 2026.
What Rockstar has confirmed
- GTA 6 is described as a single-player experience set in Vice City and the state of Leonida.
- Digital pre-orders include one month of GTA+, which Rockstar says gives access to GTA Online benefits and the GTA+ Games Library. That is the existing GTA Online, not a GTA 6 mode.
- No multiplayer features, online modes or online requirements for GTA 6 have been announced.
Why is there no GTA 6 Online at launch?
Rockstar has not explained it. When GTA 5 launched in 2013, GTA Online followed about two weeks later, and Rockstar mentioned it in the marketing ahead of release. This time the official materials only talk about the story of Jason and Lucia. A later online mode is possible, but nothing is announced, so treat any date you see online as rumor.
What happens to GTA Online?
GTA Online, the multiplayer part of GTA 5, keeps running. Rockstar continues to support it and GTA+ members get monthly benefits there. Follow our GTA Online news for weekly updates.
Can you play GTA 6 with friends?
Not based on what Rockstar has announced. You play as Jason and Lucia, and you can switch between them or play missions as a duo yourself. Read how Jason and Lucia work together.
