How big is GTA 6? Rockstar Games has not published an official file size for Grand Theft Auto VI yet. The real number should appear on the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store when pre-loading opens on November 12, 2026. Until then, here is what we know and how much space we would free up.
What is officially known
- No official size: Rockstar has not listed storage requirements for PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.
- Store placeholders: the Xbox listing has shown a tiny size of a few hundred megabytes, which is the pre-order placeholder, not the game.
- Digital only: even the boxed version is a download code, so everyone has to download the full game. See Does GTA 6 have a disc?
How big are other Rockstar games?
| Game | Install size (approx.) |
|---|---|
| GTA 5 (PS5 / Xbox Series) | about 87 to 95 GB |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | about 105 GB minimum |
| GTA 6 | not announced |
Rockstar says Leonida is about twice the size of GTA 5’s map with many more interiors (read our GTA 6 map size guide), so a bigger install than GTA 5 is likely. That is our expectation, not a confirmed number.
How much space should you free up?
Our advice: free up at least 150 GB before November 12, plus room for a day-one patch. That covers every realistic estimate we have seen from reliable outlets.
| Console | Usable storage (approx.) |
|---|---|
| PS5 (original) | 667 GB |
| PS5 Slim | 842 GB |
| PS5 Pro | 1.89 TB |
| Xbox Series X | 802 GB |
| Xbox Series S (512 GB) | 364 GB |
On the Xbox Series S, GTA 6 may take a large part of your drive. Delete or move old games to an external drive first. Current-gen games must run from internal storage or an official expansion card.
Fake file sizes to ignore
Screenshots claiming GTA 6 needs 600 GB or more came from parody accounts, and so-called leaked ISO downloads are malware. Never download GTA 6 files from anywhere other than PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store or the Rockstar Games Store.
FAQ
When will the real GTA 6 file size be known?
Most likely in the days before pre-loading opens on November 12, when Rockstar submits the final build to the stores. We will update this page as soon as it is listed.
Is GTA 6 bigger on Xbox or PS5?
Unknown until the stores list it. Sizes usually differ by a few gigabytes because of compression.
