GTA 6 has more than 170 animal species. In its Game Informer cover story, Rockstar Games revealed that Leonida is home to over 60 kinds of birds, more than 30 land mammals and many fish and reptiles. Some of them are native Florida-style wildlife that has never appeared in a Rockstar game before.
Confirmed GTA 6 animals
| Group | Species named by Rockstar |
|---|---|
| Reptiles and amphibians | Alligators, iguanas, turtles, cane toads |
| Mammals | Manatees, armadillos, rhesus macaques, feral cats |
| Birds | Flamingos, pelicans (60+ bird species in total) |

Rare, Discoverable and Legendary animals
Rockstar says some animals fall into three special tiers: Rare, Discoverable and Legendary. Which animals they are is still a secret. Fans of Red Dead Redemption 2 will recognize the idea of hunting down legendary creatures, but Rockstar has not said whether GTA 6 works the same way. We will map every legendary animal on our GTA 6 map once the game is out.
More realistic animals
- Fur and feathers react to the weather: they soak through in the rain and get matted when dirty.
- Animals fit their habitat: expect alligators in Grassrivers, sea life around the Leonida Keys and forest wildlife near Mount Kalaga.
- Activities such as bass fishing, scuba diving and zoo visits put you close to wildlife. See all GTA 6 activities.
Where to find animals in GTA 6
Exact spawn locations are only known after launch. Based on the habitats Rockstar showed, start looking in the swamps of Grassrivers for alligators, along the coast for pelicans and flamingos, and under water in the Keys for sharks and rays. Our map size guide explains all six regions.
