GTA 6 PS4 players have to upgrade: Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026 only on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is no PS4 or Xbox One version, and Rockstar Games has never announced one.
That leaves a lot of questions for players on older or cheaper hardware. Here is the honest answer for every platform, based on Rockstar’s own pre-order announcement.
Is GTA 6 coming to PS4?
No. GTA 6 is a PS5 and Xbox Series X|S game, and a PS4 cannot run it. Sony even emailed PS4 owners who had GTA 6 on their wishlist to point them to the PS5, as WePC reported in May.
GTA 5 came to PS3, then PS4, then PS5. GTA 6 skips the old generation completely, which is a big reason Leonida can be so dense and so large.
Is GTA 6 coming to Xbox One?
No. Like the PS4, the Xbox One is not supported. You need an Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S.
Can you play GTA 6 on Xbox Series S?
Yes. GTA 6 launches on Xbox Series X|S, so the cheaper Series S is supported. Rockstar has not said how it differs from the Series X version in resolution or detail.
Storage is the real problem on a Series S. The 512 GB model has only about 364 GB of usable space, so clear room well before preloading opens on November 12. Our GTA 6 file size guide shows how much to free up.
| Platform | GTA 6 at launch? |
|---|---|
| PS5 and PS5 Pro | Yes |
| Xbox Series X | Yes |
| Xbox Series S | Yes |
| PS4 | No |
| Xbox One | No |
| PC | Not announced |
| Game Pass / PS Plus | Not at launch |
Is GTA 6 on PC?
Not at launch. Rockstar has not announced a PC version or a date for one. Rockstar has released its big console games on PC later before, but that is history, not a promise.

Will GTA 6 be on Game Pass or PS Plus?
Not at launch. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has said it does not make sense to put a new premium game into a subscription on day one, as Dexerto reported.
Neither Microsoft nor Sony has announced GTA 6 for Game Pass or PS Plus. GTA 5 joined subscriptions years after its release, so a later appearance is possible, but nothing is planned that we know of.
What should you do if you are still on PS4 or Xbox One?
If you want to play on November 19, you need a PS5 or an Xbox Series X|S. A Series S is the cheapest way in. A PS5 Pro is not required, and Rockstar has not detailed what it improves.
Whatever you choose, buy before November 20 to get the Vintage Vice City Pack, and check prices in your currency on our GTA 6 price and editions page.
