GTA 6 age rating questions have clear answers now: Grand Theft Auto VI is rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB in North America. In Europe a PEGI 18 rating appeared on PEGI’s website on October 3, 2026, and was taken down again shortly after.
Neither is a surprise for a GTA game. But the pulled PEGI listing described the content in unusual detail, and that is what everyone is talking about. Here is what the ratings say, what is confirmed and what parents should know.
What is the GTA 6 age rating?
In the US and Canada, GTA 6 is rated M for Mature 17+. The ESRB descriptors are Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, and Use of Drugs and Alcohol, as listed in Esquire India’s rating overview.
Sony had already shown the M rating in emails to PlayStation users in May, WePC reported.
| Region | Rating | Status |
|---|---|---|
| US and Canada (ESRB) | M for Mature 17+ | Rated |
| Europe and UK (PEGI) | 18 | Appeared October 3, then removed |
| Other countries | Adult ratings reported | Not all official yet |
What did the pulled PEGI 18 rating say?
The PEGI 18 listing described the game’s content in detail before it disappeared, Video Games Chronicle reported. According to that report, it mentioned:
- Realistic, bloody violence, including decapitation and dismemberment
- Frequent drug use, with drugs used directly from the inventory
- Nudity, scenes of intercourse and occasional sexual fetishes
- Paid private dances at strip clubs
- Domestic animals that can be harmed, with less injury detail than humans
PEGI did not explain why the listing was removed, and Rockstar Games has not commented. Treat the details as reported until PEGI publishes the final rating.
Is GTA 6 more extreme than GTA 5?
The descriptors are in line with GTA 5, which was also rated M and PEGI 18. The difference is the level of detail in the reported PEGI text, such as drug use from the inventory and scenes of intercourse.
How explicit those scenes are will only be clear at launch. We will not guess until we have seen the game.
What should parents know about GTA 6?
GTA 6 is made for adults. An M or 18 rating means the game is not suitable for younger teenagers, and both PlayStation and Xbox let you block games by age rating in the family settings.
Also keep in mind that GTA 6 launches only on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. See our GTA 6 release date page for the full launch timeline.
What this means for players
For adult players, nothing changes: the rating confirms the tone Rockstar has shown in the trailers. For streamers and content creators, the stronger sexual content may matter for platform rules.
